Ronnie Marshall, of Washington DC, apparently came to the Springfield home of (Ret.) Colonel Brenda and Dr. Edward McDaniel in search of their son, Michael, with whom he worked, in late May 2021, according to the Washington Post.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano said Marshall was trying to burglarize the home, but he was chased away. He returned days later on May 26 to kill the beloved couple, after the doctor "used his first name," killing them while they walked their dog, and leaving them to die outside the house, the attorney said.
Marshall was driven to the McDaniel's house by D’Angelo Strand, 20, looking to confront their son, Michael, who was apparently involved in a group that allegedly jumped and robbed Marshall, according to the Washington Post. They had apparently worked together at a FedEx warehouse in Lorton.
Marshall was convicted of aggravated murder, and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony. In addition to his life sentence, he received eight years behind bars for the weapons charges.
Strand was apparently charged with a single count of accessory after a homicide, which had been amended from the same charges as Marshall faced, the Washington Post said.
